Oxygen/O2 sensors are a component of every new car. The sensor is part of the emissions control system. It feeds data to the engine management computer, with the goal of helping the engine to run as efficiently as possible, and also to limit emissions as much as possible. The amount of oxygen that an engine can pull in depends on a number of factors, such as altitude, the temperature of the air, the temperature of the engine, barometric pressure load on the engine, and more.
